Stainless steel or aluminium?
We stock two ranges. Stainless steel frames are the most rigid and durable - the choice for large sizes and heavy daily use. SS & aluminium frames combine steel with lighter aluminium sections, so they are easier to carry and rig, especially overhead.
Choosing a size
Match the frame to the cloth: a 12x12 cloth needs a 12x12 frame. Smaller frames (5x5, 6x6, 6x4) are handheld or stand-mounted for close work; 8x8 and 10x10 cover medium shots; 12x12 and larger are rigged on heavy stands or overhead for full scenes. Large frames act like sails outdoors - always sandbag the stands.

Yes. Silk frame, skimmer frame, scrim frame and butterfly frame all describe the same thing: a frame that holds diffusion cloth taut.
Can I use one frame with different cloths?
Yes. Buy one frame per size and swap full silk, half silk or grid cloth of the same size as the shot needs.
